----------------------------------------------------------------------- Minutes of the ABP-RLC section meeting of 25.02.05 present: EB, WH, TP, FR, DS, FZ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (1) PAC05 attendance & (FR) ------------------------- From the RLC team staff, EM will get top priority to attend the PAC conference (invited talk). Other RLC staff may also attend the conference depending on support/requests from the CLIC steering committee. Students are encouraged to go, especially in their second year, if they can obtain support from the conference, their home university, or a project. Priority is partly determined by the number of papers as main author. (2) Joint RLC meeting (FR) -------------------------- Occasionally joint meetings of the LHC and CLIC branches in RLC should be held, e.g., for administrative purposes. FZ suggested to also promote short overview presentations informing about the ongoing activities. FR proposed to establish a list with activities and expertise of the RLC team members. => ACTION => FR will organize a plenary meeting of the RLC section (possibly after the MAPS interviews) (3) Minutes of last meeting and pending actions ------------------------------------------------ => ACTION => compare the size of the longitudinal geometric wake with RW longitudinal wake from A. Koschik (FR) STATUS: PENDING. => ACTION => confirm bunch length, intensity, and collimator gaps during tune-shift measurement (FZ, EM). STATUS: ongoing, in contact with G. Arduini, S. Redaelli, et al. => ACTION => crosscheck the new results for the nominal LHC (FZ and DS) DS presented a comparison of LHC heat-load simulations with the old and the new corrected dependence of epsilon_max on the impact angle. He found almost a factor two difference in the heat load between the two versions of the code, for the cases delta_max=1.3 and 1.4. FR recommended further thorough checks before publicizing the new results. => ACTION => detailed comparison with old version of the code (FZ) ECLOUD run for the same input file (DS) FR suggested that the revised estimates of the available cooling capacity be presented to an LTC. (4) Ongoing activities ---------------------- For the space-charge simulations, EB found out, as suspected by EM (see minutes 18/2/05), that the previously transmitted transverse emittance values were incorrect. She will redo the PS simulations, as soon as the corrected values are confirmed by Rende Steerenburg, Alfred Blas and Massimo Giovannozzi. EB reported that Giovanni Rumolo fixed a bug in the Poisson solver for the boundary conditions in the HEADAIL code. She will re-run some simulations to see how much the result is affected. EB also implemented a z-dependent frozen-field approximation in HEADTAIL. The aim of this approximation is to explore the origin of the slow emittance growth, and, e.g., to look for evidence of a mechanism in line with Giuliano Franchetti's model, where tune modulation due to the synchrotron motion moves particles on harmful low-order resonances. (5) AOB ------- FR mentioned that Gianluigi Arduini and Miguel Jimenez would appreciate suggestions of experiments for the scrubbing run 2006. If no further experiments are needed, the scrubbing run would likely be shortened. WH asked who is maintaining Walter Wittmer's IP beta-knobs and could possible compute new ones for IP8. => ACTION => WH will check with Oliver, FZ will email Walter
