The large number of absentees resulted in a very reduced attendance (WH, EM and EV). He summarized the points discussed: OLD ACTION -> EM had contacted B. Zotter and his presentation is now foreseen for the 11.2.2005. EV prepared a paper and he will present the basic concepts and results in an AP forum next year (VERY) OLD ACTION -> EM and/or FZ will review Landau-damping mechanisms. STATUS: pending. Low priority. (2) Reports from Meetings ------------------------- - JPR showed and explained the new structure of the group, mainly to the benefits of the non-staff members of the section and focused on changes to the LCE (future RLC) section. - The presentation by EM at the recent LTC meeting was well received and led to useful discussions. - No relevant news (yet) from the LHC MAC. Talks were well received. - JPR mentioned a discussion on office space during the last section leader meeting, in particular a somewhat unexpected and apparently uncoordinated occupation of available office space in the vicinity of the APB group's cms. The need for offices on the Prevessin site for people involved in commissioning is recognized. These issues will be followed up. (3) AOB ------- - Both, WH and JPR mentioned a recent e-mail exchange concerning the use of damper and/or PLL and/or Landau damping octupoles, in particular the possible effects during a physics store, i.e. with colliding beams. The question whether this can lead to a heating needs to be evaluated and a presentation at the forthcoming workshop (March, April ?) next year should be envisaged. WH strongly suggested to included the proposed orbit feedback system into this evaluation if it is planned to be used in physics conditions. ACTION -> whole section, will be discussed a.s.a.p. next year. (4) Round table on present activities (LCE related) --------------------------------------------------- EM: work will be done for the forthcoming PS/SPS days (13.+14.1.) the papers on Montague resonance and the HHH contribution will be finalized. WH: his work on MADX is completed and included in the newest version which is released following decisions by the MADX module keepers meeting (15.12.). He restarted the work on beam-beam tracking with linear imperfections. A more general discussion on the coordination of tracking (lin. imp., crossing schemes etc.) and the distribution of work should be done early next year with the people concerned from the LOC section (after the return of FR). TP: reported on results from simulations with the program COMBI. The simulation program as well as the numerical method (matrix formulation and evaluation of eigenvalues and -modes) have been extended. Preliminary results are available on the beam response to different excitation and measurements strategies. A presentation will be given next year when FR is back. The results will support the specification of LHC instrumentation and the AP needs for studies. The contribution for the HHH workshop will be completed. Her contract with EPFL is confirmed and A. Wrulich and A. Bay are the EPFL supervisors. EB: collaborates with G. Arduini on the analysis of recent SPS MD data, this should allow a good benchmarking of the simulations. With stored beams at 26 GeV she accumulated e-cloud data, and relevant input for the simulation. This work is close to completion. She continues the study how the number of kicks in her simulation program influence the resulting emittance growth. In particular, whether systematic resonances causing the orbserved differences. A presentation at the Politecnico di Torino was given on the status of her thesis. DS: mainly involved in CLIC related activities WH, TP -- --- W.
