------------------------------------------------------------ Minutes of the ABP-RLC team meeting of 02.06.2006 present: EM, FC, OB, RT, TP, UD, WH excused: FR, FZ, GR web site: http://ab-abp-rlc.web.cern.ch/ab-abp-rlc/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Slides are not posted on the web yet but attached to this email. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Communication from OB: FR is on sick leave for 2 or 3 months. WH will take care of the organization of this meeting, which will take place every second week unless urgent topics need to be discussed (in this case contact WH, FZ or OB directly). FZ and WS will take care of FP7 and of the organization of the Valencia workshop in October. Email discussions on these topics should have a carbon copy to OB. EPAC papers should be sent to OB before June 16th. All the AB EPAC oral contributions will be presented on the 21st & 22nd of June. EM & FRO: FP420 Detector - Resistive wall effect on coupled-bunch instabilities. The detector is a structure 8m long and Cu-coated. Scans of the thickness of the Cu have been done evaluating the impact on beam instability. Conclusion is that all the cases are well within the stability region. FC asks if the option of a nickel layer has been considered since sometimes this is not observed. This needs to be followed up. EM continues with the FP420 but replacing the Cu by stainless steel. Again all points are within stability region however this contribution should not be neglected since is comparable to the contribution of other components of the LHC. To be followed up by FRO. EM: The first 2 LHC collimators have been installed in the tunnel (communication from RA) EM: Inventory of the SPS kickers. A list of all the SPS kickers has been presented with location and aperture information. Discussions with GA lead to a new updated list. The longitudinal impedance has been computed for all of them. Only MKE-L & S and MKP-L have potential impedance problems. There have been numerous efforts to estimate the transverse impedance of the MKE only. FC did the measurements of MKE-L10 fully shielded. Preliminary analysis indicates good results. Reports from meetings: OB: Next Wednesday there will be an LTC about the LHC reflectometer (FC) and the LHC collimators (RA). FC: The LHC reflectometer uses microwaves traveling through the beam pipe to detect obstacles that would spoil the physical aperture. A real concern is arising since many objects have been detected in the beam pipe and their removal is not trivial. OB: Although there are some delays in installation the machine will be finished by 2007. FC: 40 PS pick-ups are being shielded because they contain ferrites and sit in the stray fields. This shielding may pose problems for the magnetic field quality and, consequently, for the machine optics. The responsible people have been already warned. The next meeting will take place in two weeks.
